The Nepean Referees Group has locked in the delivery of a practical training session for cadet referees ahead of the start of the 2025 season.
To be held at Jamison Park on 15 March, the session will be open to current and prospective cadet referees from clubs in the Nepean Football Association.
The 1-hour training session is targeted to those cadets aged 11 to 16 years old and will cover a range of football fundamentals, including throw ins, handball, fouls, positioning, whistle use and the authority of the referee.
“Cadet referees play an important role in junior football, officiating many non-competition games every weekend across our District”, said Nepean Referees Group Vice President, Phil Macdonald.
“It’s a great pathway for up-and-coming referees to build their confidence managing games and preparing them to transition to fully accredited junior referees when they turn thirteen, or when they feel ready to make that next step”, he said.
“The session we have planned will be run by experienced senior referees, and participants will be able to ask lots of questions through each exercise, or one on one with the referees at the end”.
Places for the session are limited and interested cadet referees (and their parents) should contact their club in the first instance. Clubs will then submit registrations to Nepean Referees Group for the session.
